Prime Minister adds his weight to adoption transformation

At the Conservative Party Conference this week, David Cameron announced that he was going to take a very personal interest in changes to the adoption process. The Times newspaper has been running a campaign that indicates that adoption needs to be transformed due to the delays and hurdles that are faced in placing children for adoption.

The government earlier in the year announced the appointment of an adoption 'Tsar' to look at the present system and to transform it.

David Cameron announced that he had become  concerned that thousands of children were being lost in the system and that the latest official figures showed that of 3,660 under 1 in care, only 60 were adopted last year.

He also expressed his concerns about how many overseas adoptions were taking place against those here indicating that the care system appears to be failing to place children with willing adopters.
