Surrogacy is where you enter into an agreement for a person to act as a host mother for your child.
Finding somebody who is prepared to have a child for you is just the beginning however, legally, the process can be fraught with pitfalls and it is therefore important to obtain advice at the earliest stage possible. Is surrogacy legal in this country?
Yes. The main proviso is that no money other than 'reasonable expenses' should be paid to the surrogate. While there is no strict definition as to what constitutes 'reasonable expenses' it is left up to the individuals involved in a surrogate arrangement to come to an agreement regarding these expenses.
